Anatomy courses for ACPSEM at Vesalius Clinical Training Centre, University of Bristol

Each course presents an overview of the anatomy of the region, with related sessions exploring injury and movement dysfunction. At least 60% of the day will be in the anatomy DR (area where specimens kept).

Each day will start with the opportunity to participate in a guided inspection of the anatomy using cadaveric and osteological material from our extensive collection. Functional movement sessions and seminars will then explore related themes from a clinical and movement based perspective. The day will end with a session in which case studies will form the basis of a discussion of mechanisms of injury and relevant biomechanics (e.g for the shoulder: the anatomy and biomechanics of the throwing shoulder, for hip and groin: anatomical considerations for control of unilateral movement, rotary movement, for lower limb: gait considerations. This will be aided by re-examination of cadaveric material, video clips and demonstrations.

The sessions are led by highly experienced educators in the field of musculoskeletal Anatomy and movement practice, alongside eminent guest speakers. The excellent University of Bristol collection will provide the best possible specimens for teaching and examination of relevant joints, muscles, nerves and connective tissues.

These anatomy courses for musculoskeletal practitioners are open to practising clinicians and allied healthcare professionals who are interested in developing their knowledge of functional anatomy. Discussions during the day will encourage the merging of ideas and practices from different professions
