EUSSER - European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation

Shoulder Joint Mobilisation on Fresh Cadaver – Paris 2010

11th June 2010

The third EUSSER cadaver course was another success. All participants were Italian so simultaneous translation was kindly provided by Dr Marco Conti over the weekend.

The initial program took place in the classroom where Olivier Gagey graphically demonstrated the functional anatomy of the shoulder. This was then followed by dissection in the lab where both Olivier Gagey and Marco Conti demonstrated various things such as how injections were done in the bursa, the role of the coracohumeral ligament and demonstrating how surgeons perform a rotator cuff repair.

Raphael Franck showed a simple method of understanding and monitoring rehabilitation improvements using digital dynamometer and stages required in formulating a rehabilitation program.

On Saturday morning, participants had the opportunity to get their hands on the specimens and attempt some physiotherapy techniques such as traction or glides. Olivier Gagey also helped to demonstrate a quick examination method to diagnose 80% of common shoulder problems.

The feedback was amazing with one participant even writing “that was the best course I've ever been on”. The weather was also good which gave people the opportunity to do some sightseeing and shopping in Paris before heading home.
